Jackson Baa-ollock

Artist Statement

I currently spend most of my time working on a "flock" of twenty whimsical crocheted sheep sculptures, each of which depicts an iconic American person, place or thing. These will be shown in a solo exhibition, at The Art League Gallery, Alexandria, Virginia, in May 2011. The show, entitled "Baa-America!", is a celebration of American popular culture.

I also paint. I started with whimsical animals; these fun works are engaging to me and have served as a kind of bridge between my crochet work and my painting. Having crossed that bridge, though, I am now heading in the direction of pure abstraction as a means to depict more complex ideas and experiences that interest me.
